MLHS FINE ARTS NEWSLETTER - OCTOBER 2024
Fall Festival & Concert
The MLHS Accents are hosting a silent auction for the upcoming Fall Festival. The auction will have in-person and online bidding on Sunday, October 20th. The Fall Concert begins at 4pm in the gym that same day. All are invited to attend! We are looking for parents & friends of MLHS that are crafty, own a small business, or just love the MLHS fine arts to organize or donate baskets and items to auction off at the Fall Festival. All money raised will support the MLHS Fine Arts Department – how great is that! We thank you for your support of the MLHS Fine Arts! Go to www.mlhslancers.org/fallfestival for more info.
We would like to see a basket for auction from the students involved in Art Class, Cantate Choir, Concert Choir, Symphonic Band, Lancer Singers, & Drama. The group whose basket has a combination of the most donations and the highest bid will be treated to an ice cream party compliments of the Accents. We will collect funds by using TADs accounts to make your donation. If you are so moved, please see this link to donate by the end of Wednesday, October 9th. If you would like to donate to more than one group, please make a note on the donation form. We hope this will be a fun way for our fine arts students to help out with our fall festival!

Meet the October Fine Arts Student of the Month!
Allan Reis, 11th Grade
What Fine Arts classes/activities have you been a part of so far?
Concert Choir, Cantate Choir, Lancer Singers, Band Manager, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Drama Club, Music Technology, General Music, Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin, Pep Band, Guitar & Trumpet lessons, Mixed Media & Sculpture, Intro to Art
Non-Fine Arts Activities: Broadcasting Club, Football Manager
Favorite Genre of Music: Country
Highlight of Being in Fine Arts: I love the Fine Arts at Lutheran High. The program has so much to offer and learn. One of my highlights is that this program has inspired me to keep going on the path to becoming a band/ choir/music teacher.
Reason for Nomination:
Allan goes above and beyond what is expected of him as a band manager. He comes early for every outdoor pep band to get the gator ready, helps load/unload all of the percussion equipment, drives the gator back and forth, and helps make sure any visiting grade school students or alumni have music to play along with us. He also helps lead within his section and strives to make others feel included at all times. This is all in addition to his involvement in countless other activities. The Fine Arts department is grateful for all Allan does and appreciates the Christian love that he radiates at all times.
WSMA Accreditation
MLHS was awarded WSMA accreditation based on last year’s participation at WSMA solo/ensemble and the Concert Choir, Lancer Singers & Symphonic Band being adjudicated and competing at the World Strides Festival of Music in Nashville, TN. Our music department has received this accreditation every available year since 2018. WSMA states that only 174 high schools received WSMA accreditation this school year out of 837 high schools in the state of Wisconsin. Our goal is to meet the criteria and receive this accreditation each year at MLHS! A plaque featuring the WSMA certificate hangs in hallway outside of the main office and also is on display in the Music Center hallway.

OCTOBER 2024 FINE ARTS SCHEDULE
Symphonic Band Formal Uniform Help Needed!
The Symphonic Band students need assistance with preparing their formal wear for the Fall Concert. We need a couple adults to check returning students to make sure the uniforms still fit and then fit the new students for their uniforms. We may also need some help with basic repairs (buttons, seams, etc.) Please contact Ms. Scharf if you would be willing to help with this! We are hoping to have uniforms done by October 8th. Thanks!
Jr Lancer Band 3K Club—What is it and how do students participate?
All students in JLB are eligible to be a part of the 3K Club! In order to do this, students need to practice 3000 minutes total throughout the school year and have a parent signature each week to receive credit. Students who reach the goal before the Spring Band Concert in April will be recognized at the concert. This comes out to approximately 120 minutes of practice per week! Students can reach it by the end of the school year by practicing 115 minutes per week.
