Manitowoc Hockey finished the home season with three games this past weekend. Friday night was JV action against Sheboygan. MLHS Sophomore JJ Sweney got the start and was involved in the first goal of the game. Sweney passed to Lincoln Junior Benson Dickrell, scoring himself his second point of the season with the assist. The Manitowoc JV team lead at the end of the first period 2-0, before Sheboygan fought back to tie the game in the third period 3-3. Both teams would put shots on net without scoring the winning goal. The final was a 3-3 JV tie.
Saturday was the final home Varsity game of the season; Sweney started again but wasn't able to rekindle the magic from the night before. The Manitowoc United Varsity team fought hard but came up short in a 3-6 loss to Oshkosh Ice Hawks. The third game of the weekend and the final home game of the season was a JV tilt against Neenah/Menasha/Hortonville. The first period was skated to a 0-0 tie before the Manitowoc United JV team scored in the second period taking a 1-0 lead into the third period. Scoring came quickly in the third period with the Manitowoc United JV scoring 5 times to take a 6-2 win over the visiting team. MLHS Sophomore Reed Bartz was involved in the scoring; he assisted on the 4th United goal of the game.
While the home part of the season has come to an end, there are a few more opportunities to watch Manitowoc United Hockey. MLHS Sophomores Reed Bartz and JJ Sweney play for the Manitowoc United Hockey with high schoolers from Roncalli, Lincoln, Valders, Two Rivers, Reedsville, and Mishicot. Manitowoc United is coached by Jeff Gadzinski in their return to varsity hockey action for the first time in over 10 years.
February 6th: JV at Waupaca 7pm puck drop
February 8th: Varsity at Shawano 2pm puck drop (bring unopened peanut butter or jelly get in free)
February 13th: JV at Oshkosh (YMCA-20th Ave rink location) 5pm puck drop
February 15th: Varsity at WNS (MSOE Kern Center-rink location) 2pm puck drop
