Lancer Sports Report- Hockey is back!

For the first time since the 2013-2014 season, Manitowoc County had varsity hockey action!  Two of your fellow Lancers (Sophomores Reed Bartz and JJ Sweney) were part of the Manitowoc United team (co-op team consisting of boys and girls from numerous Manitowoc County Schools).  The first game was a tough matchup against perennial powerhouse Green Bay Notre Dame, where the local Manitowoc United team held their own, being down only 3 goals at the end of the first period; before ultimately losing 16-1.  The United goal was scored by Myles Dekok with an assist from Benson Dickrell.  Manitowoc goalies Dan Karlin and Jackson Kadow combined for 46 saves.

Game 2 for Manitowoc United Hockey was much more competitive as the Manitowoc County Co-op team hosted a team consisting of Neenah-Hortonville-Menasha (NHM) schools.  The away team got out to a 1-0 lead after the first period but the young Manitowoc United team tied it up in the second period with a goal from Miles De Kok making the score 1-1.  The score remained 1-1 till early in the 3rd period when the United team went up 2-1 with a goal by Benson Dickrell (assisted by Peter Ciglar).  The NHM team fought back with two goals of their own in the third period to win 3-2; dropping the Manitowoc United to 0-2 on the young season.

For the second varsity hockey game in Manitowoc County in more than 10 years, the

team continues improving.  This coming week will see the team play their first away game and first JV game.  Varsity at Appleton United (Thursday December 5th, 730pm); JV HOME vs. Waupaca (Friday December 6th at 6pm) and Varsity HOME vs Shawano (Saturday December 7th at 530pm).  Remember the team consists of Sophomores Reed Bartz and JJ Sweney; any HS students get in for free with their HS IDs.  Home games are located at the Manitowoc County Ice Center.
