The Lancer girls varsity basketball team played well against two tough opponents last week, but ultimately fell to both Kiel and Mishicot.
Monday the Lancers traveled to (now) 14-4 Kiel and kept it close at first, down just 31-26 at halftime. The Raiders, one of the top teams in the EWC, then pulled ahead in the second half on the way to a 60-49 non-conference victory. Senior MonRaye Ermis was the Lancers’ leading scorer, with 15 points. Classmate Emma Miller and junior Jenna Lischka each captured 8 points.
Thursday the Lancers traveled to Mishicot for a rematch against the Indians, who had fallen out of the state rankings after an 80-65 loss to St. Mary Catholic on Jan. 14th. Ermis once again was leading scorer for the Lancers and started hot with 14 of her 20 total points in the game coming in the first half. The Lancers couldn’t maintain the momentum, however, and their 30-24 halftime deficit grew to a final score of 55-45, taking a conference loss. Besides Ermis’ 20 points, senior Brooklyn Luebke had 8 points.
Our girls JV1 team picked up two wins last week, defeating Kiel 46-24 and also downing Mishicot 49-20. They are now 12-1. JV2 fell in their game last week against Pulaski.
The 10-6 (4-4 Big East North) Lancers are back at home this week, welcoming Ozaukee and Howards Grove to the Lancer gym. Tuesday, we take on the Warriors (7-8, 4-3 Big East South) in a 7:15pm conference crossover game (JV1 5:50pm). Then Friday we welcome Howards Grove (9-7, 5-2 Big East North) for a 7:15pm (JV1 5:50pm) conference matchup, hoping to avenge our 43-23 loss to the Tigers on Dec. 2nd.
We pray for great success for our Lancer girls basketball teams!
