Lady Lancers Have Another 1-1 Week

The Lancers tasted both victory and defeat last week, beating Big East South rival Cedar Grove-Belgium 43-30 on Tuesday night, but falling to conference foe St. Mary Catholic 65-23 Friday.

Senior Emma Miller led the way against the Rockets Tuesday with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Junior Jenna Lischka chipped in 10 points and 6 rebounds; senior Emily Marohn added 9 points, while classmate MonRaye Ermis had 12 rebounds.

Friday against SMC, although only managing to be down 7 points at halftime, we were then were outscored 41-6 in the second half. Coach Mike Behnke noted, “Our cold shooting and 31 turnovers led to our demise.” Emily Marohn led the way with 9 points and 4 steals against the Zephyrs. We were also without starter MonRaye Ermis, who was out with an eye injury.

In JV action last week, our JV1 and JV2 teams each won their two games. JV1 defeated CGB and SMC to continue their undefeated season. They are now 7-0. JV2 now has a three-game winning streak, defeating Freedom by 10 points on Friday and Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran by 40 points on Saturday to go to 3-2 on the season.

This past week junior Jenna Lischka, who missed last year’s basketball season as she recovered from ACL surgery, was featured in a Herald Times Reporter article about her comeback from her injury.

The Lady Lancers (4-4, 1-3 Big East North) will travel to Elkhart Lake (1-6, 0-5 conf.) Tuesday night for varsity and JV1 conference games against the Resorters. Varsity tip-off is 7pm (5:50pm JV1). Tonight (Monday) our JV1 team also has a game, traveling to Valders for a 5:45pm game against the Vikings. On Tuesday night our JV2 team hosts Valley Christian for a 6pm game.

Then next week we’ll have two games against EWC teams in the holiday tournament at Two Rivers on Wednesday-Thursday, Dec. 29th-30th. We play Roncalli (1-7) on the 29th at 5:00pm and then play Two Rivers (6-4) on the 30th at 6:30pm. Both games are at Two Rivers High School.

God’s blessings to our Lancer basketball athletes during a busy week of games, exams, and the celebration of Jesus’ birth!
