The Lancer Express - January 13, 2025

Main Gym Dedication Service

Sunday marked the day that we had been anticipating for quite some time, a momentous occasion that filled our hearts with joy and gratitude. The lord truly has blessed us here at MLHS in so many ways, showering us with opportunities and resources that have allowed us to grow and flourish as a Lancer Family. As we gathered together, the atmosphere was electric with excitement and a sense of purpose.

There were many familiar faces around the building, each person contributing to the vibrant tapestry of our school community. Alumni, current students, faculty members, and families all came together to witness this significant event. The air was filled with laughter, warm greetings, and shared memories, as we reminisced about the journey that led us to this day.

As we dedicated our new gymnasium, we not only celebrated a physical space but also reaffirmed our continuing mission of spreading the gospel message far and wide. This gymnasium represents more than just a venue for athletic events; it stands as a testament to our commitment to fostering a spirit of teamwork, perseverance, and faith among our students. It will serve as a gathering place for various activities, from sports competitions to community events, all aimed at nurturing the values we hold dear.

The dedication service was led by Pastor Jason Hacker, MLHS President. who reminded us of the importance of using this new facility to further our mission. The sermon message was delivered by Pastor Tom Unke (MLHS '84) He emphasized how this space would enable us to reach out to others, share our faith, and create lasting relationships that extend beyond the walls of our school. As we looked around, we could see the potential for growth and outreach, envisioning how this gymnasium would help us engage with the broader community in meaningful ways.

Sunday was not just a celebration of a new building; it was a reaffirmation of our shared values and a commitment to our mission. We left the event with renewed enthusiasm and a collective resolve to make the most of the blessings bestowed upon us, ensuring that our efforts to spread the gospel message continue to resonate throughout the years to come. We cannot express enough thanks and gratitude to each and every one of you for helping make this possible!

Parent Presentation Coming Up

On Friday, March 28 - Start time TBD - We welcome Mrs. Rachel Burgess for her presentation to parents The Effects of Technology on the Child’s Development and Strategies for Proper Use at home here to MLHS.

Participants of this session will study the research on technology and its impact on growing minds. Using this research as a guide, we will discuss how technology affects home, school, and social life, noting the pitfalls and dangers of misuse and overuse of technology in the home and school. Finally, we will develop skills and strategies to help parents and families decide how to use technology in the home and how to communicate these preferences to teachers and other influencers in the child’s life.

Rachel is an MLC graduate of 2002(B.S.) and 2011(M.S.). Starting as a 16-yr-old preschool aide in Houston, TX, she has served in several part-time preschool programs as well as year-round childcare centers. Her Early Childhood Ministry calls include Baton Rouge, LA (2000-01), La Crescent, MN (2002-2004), and Inver Grove Heights, MN (2005-06). She was a Center Director for Kindercare Learning Centers (2004-05), taught one year of Kindergarten at Lamb of God in West Allis, WI (2006-07) and Director/teacher at Trinity in Caledonia, WI (2008-2015). Rachel currently teaches as an adjunct professor at Martin Luther College: 2 courses in the Educational Administration Masters Program and 4 courses in the Early Childhood Educator Series. Rachel lives in Inver Grove Heights, MN with her husband, Emile, (Pastor at Crown of Life, West St. Paul) and three children: Lydia (10), Suki (8) and Micah(6).
